Hiking for coexistence in Lombardia, summer 2023
Exciting new ecotourism proposals in Lombardy for summer 2023! New destinations for one day or multi-day backpacking excursions that combine immersion in the nature of Lombardy’s parks with encounters with local people who are “unaware” of the presence of wolves in the mountains. The hikes focus on the coexistence between humans and wild animals: in this way, ecotourism becomes a tool for biodiversity conservation and dialogue with shepherds, rangers and refuge managers.
One day hikes
In July and August, one day hikes are organized in the Parco delle Orobie Bergamasche, to discover alpine cheese and the biodiversity of alpine pastures, and in the Parco dell’Orobie Valtellinesi, between Val Belviso and Alpe Pedroria.
Multi-day excursions
The summer of 2023 will take walkers through the alpine pastures where wolves live in the Belviso Valley in the Valtellina Orobie Park; to meet the shepherds of the Brembana, Seriana and Scalve valleys in the Bergamo Orobie Park; on the trail of the first packs in the lands of the upper Oglio and the “White War” between the Stelvio National Park and the Adamello Park.

LWA EU Action C7 aims to promote ecotourism that brings direct and lasting economic benefits for local communities, local farmers and tourism professionals, without compromising wildlife conservation. The treks are developed in collaboration with ViaggieMiraggi, a social cooperative-tour operator, a network of individuals and associations in Italy and around the world specializing in sustainable travel and development projects around the world.
Ecotourism initiatives developed under the LIFE WolfAlps EU project also have the opportunity to grow and be enriched thanks to the contribution of the Capellino Foundation, an independent, nonprofit organization and the project’s main co-funder.
