4th teacher training successfully implemented in Austria
During the two-part webinar on 5 and 12 December 2023 entitled “Wolves back in Austria – living with the wolf”, participants got to know the ancestor of our domestic dogs better.
The wolf, a large predator, has returned to Austria in recent years. Children and young people are usually very interested in getting to know the wolf better. It inspires and at the same time fuels fears. But how does the wolf live? How does it behave? What does its return mean for us humans? How do you recognise a wolf in an area and how can you tell it apart from a dog?
These and many other questions were addressed in the two events. The factual information provided on the biology, lifestyle and behaviour of wolves as well as the topic of herd protection should help participants to deal with the topic in class with the help of the documents.
The learning objectives of the training were:
- Biology of wolves
- Acquisition of knowledge and experience on the subject of living with wolves (behaviour during encounters)
- Insights into the possibilities of livestock protection
- Recognising signs of the presence of wolves
This teacher training was split into two sessions, the first on 5 December, the second on 12 December 2023. 23 of the 45 participants attended both sessions (as intended), 17 only the first and five only the second session. After the presentations, the speakers were available to answer a large number of questions. The link to the corresponding handout was sent to all participants. There they will find further insights as well as worksheets for the classroom.
