The workshop was held in two parts, the lectures on the first day and field activities on the second. For the first day, there was a lot of interest, more than 50 participants, from Slovenian Police, hunters, hunting inspectors, WPIU members, and of course, CUFAA representatives. Lectures covered wolf as a conflict species, monitoring and telemetry and the potential of their use in the investigation procedures. CUFAA presented recent cases in depth, allowing the participants the insight of the CUFAA work and the flow of their thinking. Hunting inspector from Slovenia talked about the ways of cooperation with the police and a member of the Slovenian Police presented a recent case of illegal killing of wolves in Slovenia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the second day of the workshop, project partners from CUFAA held a practical presentation on the learning and training process of a poison-detection dog to effectively find potential poison that was put out in the field with the aim of poisoning wolves. The topic was very interesting among the Slovenian Police as there were special K9 unit police officers present who do not have such experience with dog training for this purpose. Afterwards, participants went to the field where partners from UL, Biotechnical Faculty, Biology department showed the methodology and philosophy of wolf live-captures in order to receive valuable information on wolf movement, their territories and different drivers occurring in their social group (wolf pack).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
