In August Slovenia Forest Service<\/a> in collaboration with Dinaricum society<\/a> organised two workshops for volunteers who take part in the annual wolf howling survey. The aim of the workshops was to inform the interested public about the latest results of the Slovenian wolf monitoring programme and educate them about the theoretical and technical background of the howling survey method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Workshops took place in Cerkno and Bled, two towns in the (pre) alpine region of Slovenia where permanent wolf presence was re-established in 2019 after many decades of wolf pack absence. Because of this sudden re-colonization such workshops play a key role in the expansion of field staff network which helps to carry out the monitoring activities (howling survey, genetic sample collection) and also in broadening the participants knowledge of wolf biology and conservation practices<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both workshops were carried out in the scope of A5 action of the LIFE WolfAlps EU project, which aims to harmonize the surveillance of the wolf status at the international alpine population levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
